9 Light and Healthy Soup Recipes

9 Light and Healthy Soup RecipesNothing beats a delicious bowl of soup in the cold winter months. Soup is filling, satiating, and can offer tons of nutrients, but not all recipes are healthy, so make sure to try these light and healthy versions next time you have a craving.

Healthy and Light Soup Recipes

  • Chowder.  If you enjoy chowder, you will love this healthy and light recipe.  This chowder incorporates corn, tomatoes, low-sodium broth, and fresh black pepper.  Add only a small amount of bleu cheese to make this recipe healthier by cutting down on calories and fat.
  • Lentil Stew Delight. This soup is a great source of protein and veggies. Make sure to add only enough potato and protein to meet your macronutrient requirements and provide you with energy for your daily activities.
  • Turkey and Meatball Tortellini and Spinach Soup. Enjoy a large serving of this soup for only 300 calories.  Skip on the salt to make this a low-sodium soup and get the leanest portion of ground turkey to make this a fat-free choice (you can find a 99 percent fat-free option depending on where you shop).
  • Chicken Lentil Soup. This delicious, hearty recipe will wow the entire family and it’s two main ingredients are full of nutrients. Lentils are loaded with fiber and protein and are also low in fat, and chicken is a complete protein that will help rebuild and support your body’s cellular activity. If you are a fan of lentil soup and would like an additional option, consider this light and healthy option.
  • Cauliflower Soup. Vegetables make a great choice for a soup.  In addition, cauliflower makes an ideal option to blend into a puree for a delicious soup.  A large serving of about 1.5 cups will provide you with only 80 calories, four grams of fiber and protein, and it is low in sodium (500 mg per 1.5 cup servings).
  • Broccoli Cheddar. This is a favorite for pretty much everyone who enjoys soup.  One-sixth portion of this recipe will provide just over 200 calories with 360 mg of sodium and 16 grams of protein.  Save on calories and fat by using less cheese or skipping it all together.
  • Carrot and Ginger. Carrot and ginger soup is another household favorite among soup lovers.  With less than 200 calories in a serving, this soup is creamy without the additional calories from fat.  Use a non-fat Greek yogurt for thickness and scrimp on the nuts and honey if you would like to make this a lower-calorie soup.
  • Mushroom Soup with Hummus. This is not a typical combination for a soup mixture, but it provides less than 300 calories per serving and contains tons of fiber and protein, as well as 14 grams of fat, which are mostly from the healthy, omega-3 packed olive oil.
  • Tortilla Soup. If you like Mexican food, this is the soup for you. A serving is just shy of 200 calories with about eight grams of protein per serving. Take it easy on the tortilla chips and cheese to save on calories, and if you would like to add protein to your meal, consider adding shredded chicken to the recipe.
